Several of us (in Saint Louis University's Chapter of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship) attended the Urbana Student Missions Conference in December, and during one of our night sessions, the 16000 of us in the Edward Jones Dome assembled 32000 caregiver kits to send to Africa. We learned not only about AIDS and the struggle caregivers and those living with AIDS face, but also ways in which God is fulfilling a need and providing for his people. We were so moved and inspired by this event that we wanted to do something like that here on campus where other students, faculty, etc could join in this with us as we serve globally from here in our own city.
We're partnering with World Vision to fundraise for as many caregiver kits as we can (the more, the better!), and then actually assembling these caregiver kits at the April 6th event. Closer to the event date, we'll communicate to World Vision the number of kits we've raised money for and they'll send us all of the materials we'll need (medical supplies, kit bags, etc). On April 6th we'll all get together and assemble every last one of the kits they've sent us, and pack them up into boxes. After that we'll send the kits to a World Vision distribution center where they will be prepared for international shipping and sent away. The kits we assemble here in St. Louis will be sent to caregiver's in Swaziland!
